About Ottawa Valley Aid for Chernobyl Children

The misssion of our charity is to

  • Provide summer respite visits with host families in Canada for children who live in areas contaminated by radiation from the April 26th, 1986 Chernobyl disaster
  • Recruit host families so that more children can benefit from this program
  • Send food, clothing and medical supplies to the families of these children in Belarus
  • Provide educational assistance

OVACC has no paid personnel and no physical assets - everything we do is done by volunteers

OVACC provides the transportation to Canada and medical insurance required for the children and the interpreter/chaperone.

OVACC provides the Canadian Visa's required for the visit.

Host families are responsible for all expenses during the respite visit

OVACC works with a counterpart charity in Belarus to arrange visits

OVACC raises funds primarily through various community fundraising events (spaghetti dinner, catering activities, craft sales, etc.)  and solicits corporate donations.  Financial statements are publicly available on the CRA website.
